What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers, also known as teeth veneers and instant orthodontics, are cosmetic restorations made to act as front teeth covers, masking any and all imperfections. Depending on the type of veneer system, they are either fabricated from ultra-thin porcelain, ceramic, or composite.
Dr. Sudeep offers:
- Porcelain Veneers. Long-lasting dental veneers made from natural-looking, iridescent porcelain.
- Lumineers®. Popular veneers system made from ceramic that doesn't require any preliminary tooth preparation.
During your veneers consultation, Dr. Sudeep will partner with you to determine which system would be the best choice for your smile. From there, she will ask you about your goals and lifestyle, giving you the top choice for you!
How Veneers Transform Smiles

Your veneers will take years off your smile by completely eliminating any and all of the following conditions:
- Deep stains
- Discoloration
- Chips & cracks
- Gaps between teeth
- Misalignment
- Short or misshapen teeth
- Gummy smile
- Worn enamel
The Benefits of Veneers

Porcelain veneers come with a wide range of benefits, including:
- Improved esthetics. Porcelain veneers are the most natural-looking cosmetic restoration available. They truly do look like your teeth - but better!
- Long-lasting results. This type of veneer is made to last. If you practice good oral hygiene and visit Dr. Sudeep for regular visits, yours could last decades.
- Instant orthodontics. Dental veneers straightensmiles in as little as two appointments.
- Boosted confidence. You'll have a brand-new smile everyone will love!
Benefits of Lumineers

Lumineers are an excellent alternative to porcelain veneers. They offer many of the same benefits except they do NOT require any tooth enamel to be removed in the preparation process. This means that existing teeth stay intact while being bonded with a ceramic material that's as thin as a contact lens!
How Much Do Veneers Cost?

Your total veneers cost will heavily depend on the number of dental veneers required and the veneers system you choose. Since no two patients are the same, you must attend your consultation to determine your projected treatment time and investment.
Sunnyvale Family and Cosmetic Dentistry makes it easy to afford your veneers. If you are in need of financing, our friendly staff can help get you set up in a no-interest or low-interest monthly payment plan with CareCredit®.

Veneers FAQs
What Happens to the Teeth Under Veneers?
Rest assured that treatment doesn’t harm the teeth under veneers. While it does alter your enamel, it won’t cause any damage to your smile’s health.
You see, veneer placement removes bits of enamel from the treated teeth. This step ensures that your final shells don’t “jut out” or fall off in the future. It also won’t increase your risk of cavities, as your veneers will cover the shaved surfaces.
Note that you’ll still need to protect and clean your “veneered” teeth. Without proper care, they could develop cavities or decay that your veneers hide from view. You should thus remember to brush twice daily, floss once daily, and attend regular dental checkups.
Do Veneers Give You a Lisp?
Veneers can give you a lisp in rare cases. That said, this speech impediment (when present) fades quickly as you adjust to treatment.
A veneer-related lisp mainly stems from muscle memory. Since you aren’t used to the shells on your teeth, their thickness can affect how your tongue moves. This change in movement can cause you to pronounce “s” and “v” sounds incorrectly.
Your tongue will adjust to veneers after enough practice. Still, you can speed up that process by practicing your pronunciation of certain sounds.
Can You Whiten Veneers?
Sadly enough, you can’t whiten veneers as you would natural teeth. A whitening procedure wouldn’t have any effect on the shells, even if they’ve suffered stains.
It comes down to how modern teeth whitening works. To remove your smile stains, this procedure uses bleaching gel that seeps into the pores of your enamel. Since porcelain veneers lack such pores, the treatment gel wouldn’t alter their color.
The good news is that there are workarounds for this issue. For example, you could receive teeth whitening before you get veneers. Your final shells can then be color-matched to your brightened smile.
Do Veneers Change Your Face?
Veneers do change your face, but please don’t worry. This effect should benefit your appearance in the long run, helping you look better than ever.
Note that your mouth loses elasticity and muscle tone as it ages. As these losses occur, your face can develop wrinkles, start to seem “droopy,” and look older than it is. Veneers prevent these effects by supporting your mouth’s musculature and accentuating your cheekbones. In doing so, they essentially give you a facelift without the need for surgery.
Of course, your dentist will gladly explain the impact veneers may have on your face. Just bring up the matter at your consultation visit.
